Bob Schewior grew up in Maplewood, NJ, and as a junior, had a #3 ranking in the Boys 14 and Under in the ETA.  In 1969, he led Columbia High School to the New Jersey State title while compiling a 27-1 record as the #1 singles player.

Bob has been teaching at Chestnut Ridge since 1975.  His playing accomplishments include playing #1 singles at Rutgers University 1971-73 and ranking in the Top 20 Men’s Singles in the ETA six times between 1976-85. In 1980, he teamed with Jeffrey Aarts to win the NJ State doubles title. In 1988 and 1991, Bob was ranked in the Top 20 nationally in Men’s 35 and 40 Singles, respectively.

Bob oversees all of the lesson and playing programs at Chestnut Ridge. His best junior student achieved a #5 national ranking while numerous others have excelled to the point of being granted college scholarships.

He sums up his teaching philosophy as follows: “Our goal is to make better players at all ability levels by making these players more aware of both the physical and mental demands of playing good tennis. It is when students are confronted with challenges that are neither too easy nor too difficult that they enjoy playing the game most”.
